Privacy & Permissions: The microphone test requires your browser's permission to access your microphone. No audio is recorded or stored by this tool. All tests are performed locally in your browser.

How to Use the Device Tester

This tool helps you check three key components of your computer: your microphone, your audio output (speakers/headphones), and your screen display.

  1. Microphone Test:
    • Click the "Start Microphone Test" button.
    • Your browser will likely ask for permission to access your microphone. Please allow it.
    • Speak into your microphone. The visualizer bar should move in response to your voice, indicating the input level.
    • Click "Stop Microphone Test" to end the test.
  2. Audio Output Test:
    • Ensure your device volume is turned up and speakers/headphones are connected.
    • Click "Play Test Tone (Center)" to hear a sound from both speakers/headphone sides.
    • Click "Test Left Channel" to hear a sound only from the left side.
    • Click "Test Right Channel" to hear a sound only from the right side.
    • If you hear the tones correctly, your audio output is likely working.
  3. Screen Pixel Test:
    • Click one of the colored buttons (Red, Green, Blue, Black, White).
    • Your screen will enter fullscreen mode and fill with the selected solid color.
    • Carefully inspect your screen for any pixels that are:
      • Dead Pixels: Always black, regardless of the displayed color.
      • Stuck Pixels: Always a specific color (e.g., always red, green, or blue) and don't change with the background.
      • Hot Pixels: Always white.
    • Click through all the colors to test thoroughly.
    • To exit the fullscreen test, press the 'Escape' (Esc) key on your keyboard or click the "Exit Fullscreen Test" button that appears at the bottom of the screen.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

If a test doesn't work as expected, here are some common troubleshooting steps:

  • Microphone Not Working:
    • Ensure you granted microphone permission to your browser for this site.
    • Check if your microphone is properly connected to your computer.
    • Verify that your microphone is selected as the default recording device in your operating system's sound settings.
    • Make sure your microphone is not muted (hardware or software mute).
    • Try a different USB port or connection if applicable.
    • Test with another application to see if the microphone works elsewhere.
  • No Audio Output (Speakers/Headphones):
    • Check that your device volume is turned up and not muted.
    • Ensure your speakers or headphones are correctly plugged in and powered on.
    • Verify that the correct audio output device is selected in your system's sound settings.
    • Test with another application or website to see if sound works generally.
    • If testing channels, ensure your audio balance is centered in your system settings.
  • Screen Pixel Test Issues:
    • If fullscreen mode doesn't activate, your browser might not support the Fullscreen API, or there might be a browser extension interfering. Try a different browser.
    • Dead or stuck pixels are hardware issues with your display. They usually cannot be fixed by software. If your device is under warranty, contact the manufacturer.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is any data from these tests (like microphone audio) recorded or stored?

No. All tests are performed locally in your web browser. For the microphone test, the audio stream is analyzed in real-time for volume visualization but is not recorded, stored, or transmitted anywhere. Your privacy is respected.

What if I see a dead or stuck pixel during the screen test?

Dead or stuck pixels are usually hardware defects in the LCD/LED panel of your screen. They typically cannot be fixed by software. If your device is new or under warranty, you might be eligible for a repair or replacement depending on the manufacturer's pixel policy. Sometimes, gently massaging the area around a stuck pixel (not a dead one) can temporarily fix it, but this is not guaranteed and should be done with extreme caution.

The microphone visualizer bar is barely moving, even when I speak loudly. What's wrong?

This could indicate a few things: your microphone input volume might be set very low in your operating system's sound settings, the microphone might be too far away, there could be an issue with the microphone itself, or you might not have granted proper permission. Check your system's microphone settings first.

Can this tool fix problems with my devices?

No, this tool is for diagnostic purposes only. It helps you identify if your microphone, audio output, or screen are functioning as expected. It cannot repair hardware issues. If a problem is detected, you may need to check your connections, update drivers, adjust system settings, or seek professional repair.
