How to Use the Weight Change Tracker

  1. Log Your Weight:
    • Select the "Date" of your weight measurement (defaults to today).
    • Enter your "Weight" in the input field.
    • Choose the correct unit for your measurement: "kg" (kilograms) or "lbs" (pounds).
    • Click the "Add Weight Entry" button.
  2. View Your Progress:
    • Summary: The "Your Weight Journey Summary" section shows your starting weight, current (latest) weight, and the total change since your first entry.
    • Detailed Log: The "Detailed Weight Log" table lists all your entries, with the most recent appearing first. It shows the date, weight (in your originally entered unit), and the change from the previous entry (in kg).
    • Progress Chart: The "Your Weight Progress Chart" provides a line graph visualizing your weight (in kg for consistent charting) over time.
  3. Delete Entries: If you need to remove an incorrect entry, click the trash can icon () in the "Action" column of the log table. You will be asked to confirm the deletion via a modal dialog.

Your data is saved using Firebase, allowing you to track your progress across sessions on the same browser/device (or across devices if you were part of a larger Toolixo account system that supports persistent login).

Benefits of Tracking Your Weight

  • Increased Awareness: Become more mindful of your weight fluctuations and how lifestyle choices (diet, exercise, stress) impact them.
  • Motivation & Accountability: Seeing progress on a chart or in a log can be a powerful motivator. Regularly logging your weight also keeps you accountable to your health and fitness objectives.
  • Identify Trends & Patterns: Spot patterns over time, such as how new diet plans or exercise routines affect your weight, or identify periods of stagnation or unwanted change.
  • Goal Setting & Achievement: Helps you set realistic weight goals (loss, gain, or maintenance) and monitor your journey towards achieving them.
  • Early Detection of Issues: Significant, unexplained weight changes can sometimes be an early indicator of underlying health issues, prompting a consultation with a doctor.
  • Data for Healthcare Providers: A consistent log of your weight can be valuable information to share with your doctor or dietitian.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How is the 'Change from Previous' calculated in the log table?

The 'Change from Previous' is calculated by subtracting the weight (in kg) of the immediately preceding logged entry (when entries are sorted by date) from the current entry's weight (in kg). This difference is always shown in kilograms for consistent comparison.

Why is the chart displayed in kilograms (kg) even if I enter my weight in pounds (lbs)?

To maintain a consistent scale on the chart and make visual comparisons of trends easier, all weight entries are converted to and plotted in kilograms. However, your logged entries in the table will still display the weight in the unit you originally entered (kg or lbs).

Can I log weight for future dates?

No, the date input for logging weight is restricted to today or past dates. You cannot log anticipated future weights with this tool.

Is my weight data private and secure?

Your weight entries are stored in a Firebase Firestore database associated with a user ID (either anonymous or authenticated). We implement security rules designed to protect this data, typically restricting access to your own entries. For detailed information on how your data is handled, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

What if I make a mistake in a logged entry? Can I edit it?

Currently, this tool allows you to delete an incorrect entry using the trash can icon () in the log table. To 'edit' an entry, you would delete the incorrect one and then re-add it with the correct information for that specific date.
